We Shelter in Place
During this coronavirus pandemic, all of us are
with challenges and
disruptions in our normal lives. This added stress can increase
conflicts and make everyday frustrations feel worse than usual.
However, these challenges also give us a chance to focus on what is
most dear to us. I encourage you to schedule time for what
matters most to you.
One of my goals is to continue to provide help and
support to my
clients during this crisis. In mid-March I switched from face-to-face
office visits to
phone and video meetings. This has proven to be a good way for my
to continue our work together.
I would like to share a few strategies to help you
while we are sheltering in place:
- Keep informed. Don't waste time
with opinions, rumors, and political arguments. Listen to medical
experts (infectious disease, public health, epidemiology, virology,
immunology) and follow their advice. Facts matter.
- Stay in touch with family and friends. Reach
people each day. Phone and video calls are great ways to connect.
- Practice your communication skills. Average
will not get you through the tough times. Practice listening deeply
with no expectations, judgments, or distractions. Practice being
honest, specific, and clear about your what you want and don’t want.
- Schedule your time each day and keep a regular
schedule for waking up, going to bed, eating meals, and doing things
that are important to you.
- Get exercise. Do anything that gets you moving
breathing. Go for walks outside. Put on some music and dance! Do yoga
or Tai Chi or aerobics.
- Pray or meditate daily. Get quiet. Let go of
expectations and agendas. Relax and just breathe. Do this outdoors when
- Be gentle with yourself and your loved ones.
If you feel the need for guidance and support, I
encourage you to
schedule a phone or video
meeting with me. During the month of May I am offering a 20% discount.
